Summer 2005. EA was contracted for clean-up duty. The client had an existing system which was dysfunctional due to improper design. Flaws identified:

• A 30 kW generator with under 1 kW of charging capacity
• Excessively large battery bank, would take over 100 hrs of generator running to charge
• Batteries of many different ages and conditions all tied together
• Numerous safety issues relating to battery cabling.

Upgrade:

• Dual Xantrex SWPlus5548 inverters on a power panel
• 80 kWh battery bank, industrial 2V cells
• Generator automation
• 0.8 kW PV array
• Custom designed winter heating system for generator
